Members Update 14/05/20

HOUGHTON LE SPRING GOLF CLUB – PLAY SAFE-STAY SAFE

Latest Update for Members 14.05.20

After the successful completion of Day 1 of re-opening at Houghton le Spring Golf Club the committee would like to re-affirm its position regarding its PLAY SAFE-STAY SAFE plans.

Before we do so the committee would first like to sincerely thank all the members who played yesterday all of whom followed our PLAY SAFE-STAY SAFE rules and conditions so respectfully.

The committee has received so much positive feedback and for that we are grateful.

In previous posts the committee have endeavoured to communicate the important message that our initial plans for re-opening the course have been designed around one main priority. That being recognising our social responsibility in doing all we can to protect the health and well-being of our members, staff, and volunteers during this ongoing, unprecedented public health crisis.

For clarity, our priority has not changed and will not change until the country can safely navigate its way out of this awful situation. Golf courses have been allowed to open by government as a vehicle to allow and promote exercise but with clear conditions.

Our current plans and playing restrictions were also designed to embed fairness. At no stage, and at the point the committee announced the course could re-open some 48 hours ago, could the committee predict member demand. What the committee did agree was to review its plans daily and consistently so we could make any changes with measured, clear thought and not by ‘knee jerk’ reactions based on little information of playing patterns or personal demands.

We can assure all members constant reviews are happening. But we re-iterate any changes or relaxation to playing restrictions will only be made if the committee feel safety is not compromised and fairness for all can be demonstrated.

The next committee meeting to be held over the weekend will assess wholly how the first few days have gone. All feedback we have received both positive and negative will be part of that assessment.

Members will be informed of any new actions or changes we intend to make which will affect you.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience during this period.

John Walvin (Chairman) on behalf of The Committee
