March Course Update

Course update

March 14th 2020

I must start by commending the Greens Team on their efforts over the winter. Our course has held up very well in comparison to many other local courses. Visitors have been coming back and we have received many positive comments about the course. We will always open the course whenever possible so members and visitors can play the greatest game ever.

Despite our great drainage some of the greens remain spongy on the surface. You will recall that to improve the enjoyment of members and visitors in the summer we decided to move our maintenance period from August to April. Weather permitting the planned maintenance is scheduled in your fixtures to start on the 30th March 2020. The wet autumn and start to this year has prompted the Greens Team to undertake a more aggressive SandCat treatment with specified greens rather than the planned treatment to all greens. The last time this treatment was used on our course was 2015. I have attached some pictures to remind you of the aggressive nature of the treatment and a couple of bedtime videos to explain how it all happens.  We are expecting the greens to recover fully within a few weeks. They should be ready for the start of the competitive season in earnest. This is of course, dependent upon decent weather. Keep your fingers crossed for a warm April and remember that the work is necessary and will avoid disruption in the summer.

August 2015. Can you guess which green?

The grass on the course will soon start to grow and we will be able to start shaping the fairways to get some definition. For your information it is the intention to cut the fairways at 19mm, semi rough at 31mm and rough at 60mm for the season 2020. The width of fairways will be decided before the season with the new slope rating and world handicap system in mind. We of course will endeavor to make the course enjoyable for all while still providing a challenge for the competitive golfer.

If you have any questions or queries please see one of the Greens Committee or one of the Greens Team. They, like ASDA employees, are always ‘happy to help’.

Enjoy your golf,

The Greens Team
