Latest COVID Restrictions – Update 29/09/20
HOUGHTON LE SPRING GOLF CLUB
COVID 19 – New Government Restrictions
Latest Update for Members 29.9.20
Following the latest statement affecting the North East region made by Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, in the House of Commons on the 28th September 2020, the COVID 19 Sub Committee have met this evening to discuss how new restrictions announced will impact our club and what actions we will have to implement so that Houghton-le-Spring Club complies.
Prior to Matt Hancock’s latest announcement, and covered under the regulations that came into force on the 18th September 2020, residents in our region were advised that they ‘…should not socialise with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in all public venues.’
At that time, the Committee were confident, because of the safety measures we had put in place to ensure cleanliness, social distancing, and track & trace, that our clubhouse is a safe place to socialise after a round of golf. Therefore, the Committee took the decision to keep our clubhouse and bar open to members, their guests, and visitors.
However, from 00:01am on Wednesday 30th September 2020 the above advice ceases to be guidance only and will now become enforceable by law.
Therefore, after careful consideration and discussions around all the options open and available to us the Committee have had to take the following decision(s) which will come into effect immediately:
· The clubhouse bar is to close until further notice.
· The locker room will be inaccessible to all. Members must remove their golf equipment at their earliest opportunity.
· Mulligan’s restaurant will remain open at this time. Further information will follow.
· The playing of golf will not change. Current PLAY SAFE-STAY SAFE rules will still apply.
The Committee have not come to these decisions lightly and have considered all viable options open to us while consulting advice from England Golf and Public Health England. We will continue to review our position as advice changes.
We hope all our members will continue to support the club during this next difficult period.
John Walvin (Chairman) on behalf of The Committee.
