Members & Visitors Dress Code

Members are asked to follow the on course dress code applied by the club

and to ensure their guests playing the course or visiting the clubhouse or restaurant also conform.

The club wishes to preserve a "smart but casual" approach based on clothing that is principally designed for golf. As, however, dress sense is a highly subjective topic, the club would appreciate your support in maintaining the following general standards:

On Course

Trousers: (On Course) Denim jeans, tracksuits and military style combat attire (i.e. camouflage) are not considered appropriate on the course.

Shorts: Shorts MUST be tailored and are permitted only when worn with either calf length sports socks or knee length socks. Ankle (trainer) socks are strictly prohibited for men.

Shirts: For men, shirts MUST be either collared or be 'New style' round/crew neck golf shirts and must be tucked into trousers or shorts at all times. Ladies however

may wear tops outside their trousers or skirts when they are designed to do so.

Shoes: Recognised golf shoes must be worn.

Trainers are not permitted on the golf course.

Shoes MUST be worn at all times within the clubhouse

Caps: Should not be worn the wrong way round (i.e. peak at the back), and MUST not be worn in the Clubhouse.

Clubhouse Guidelines

Although the club operates a 'relaxed' approach to clubhouse attire we would request that members and guests dress in smart casual attire at all times. Golf waterproofs previously worn on the course are not permitted in the clubhouse.

Jeans and training shoes are permitted, however 'dirty/begrimed' work wear and severely mutilated trousers are not. Tee shirts displaying offensive logos are strictly prohibited.

The implementation of this dress code is primarily the responsibility of the Club officials, staff and Professional of Houghton Le Spring Golf Club. It is expected however that members will play their part in ensuring its implementation with their playing partners and guests.

Those members or guests shown to be in flagrant disregard of the dress code may be prohibited from playing the course or asked to refrain from entering the clubhouse.
