On behalf of the Golf Club may I start the New Year, with a big thank you to all the people who have renewed their membership for 2012. It is this fantastic ongoing support, which makes our Golf Club the success that it is, well done to everyone.

May I also extend a warm welcome to all our new members and hope that you all enjoy your experiences, both on and off the golf course, that comes from being a member of Houghton le Spring G.C.

I will be contacting all the new members in the very near future, to invite you to a friendly get together, where you can bring yourselves up to speed with all activities of the golf club and hopefully I will be able to answer any question or queries.

At the time of writing, the weather has been extremely kind to us and we have been able to enjoy some fine days out on the course, long may this continue.

This has also allowed the Club to run full competitions, which has benefited the club in all aspects, a far cry from last winter, I just hope I have not spoken to soon?.

Having completed my first month of my Captaincy, everything to report has been on the positive side, There however has been one piece of bad news and that concerns the sad loss of Dave Binsley, who was a much liked and respected member of the Golf Club, I am sure we will all miss him, but at the same time remember him with great fondness.
